ABSTRACT

Cooperation Jackson in Jackson, Mississippi is striving to make a big impact in the prefigurative development of eco-socialism, a classless socioeconomic system in which humans live in balance with nature. Eco-socialism would feature collective ownership of the means of production, democratic planning, and production tuned to meet social needs within ecological limits. Four cooperative institutions form the core of Cooperation Jackson: a federation, an incubator, an economic democracy school, and a financial institution. Together they engage in a range of solidarity economics strategies and practices.
