ABSTRACT

The capitalist economy is a “suicide economy” that values life only for its market value and prioritizes profit over community well-being. Its “money is sacred” story pervades economics, law, and democracy. The alternative, a “living Earth economy,” is based on a “life is sacred” story, centered in reconnecting with nature and with one another. Emphasizing these values, a living Earth economy calls for a system transformation that shifts power from global corporations to largely self-reliant and deeply democratic, self-governing, bioregional living communities.
