ABSTRACT

Over the course of the modern age, Portuguese colonial universes took part in the intense dynamics of construction, extension and reconfiguration of scientific knowledge. I shall analyse historical sources that provide data concerning the processes of production of knowledge in Portuguese India during the eighteenth century. To this end, these processes shall be understood as inseparable from their local contexts and, at the same time, connected with their more global envelopments, in processes of construction, extension, maintenance and reconfiguration of knowledge in the scope of the Portuguese empire, between India and Europe.
