ABSTRACT

This chapter takes a critical disability approach to the live-streaming gaming network Twitch. Drawing on literature surrounding streaming, we observe an emphasis on the personal as political as a strategy employed by marginalised groups and question why games studies has not considered disabled gamers within this analysis and why critical disability studies has not explored gaming in depth. The chapter reviews both research fields to discover various unspoken intersections that need to be addressed in future research to gain full insight into the political potential of the disabled or so-called crip body of Twitch streamers.
