ABSTRACT

Social play is an important part of childhood development, but children with disabilities face challenges of accessibility and acceptance in both physical and virtual spaces, including bullying and alienation. In Autcraft, a Minecraft virtual world for autistic children, community members engage in social play and reshape what it means for disabled persons to interact with others. This chapter explores what it means to be disabled for these youth within the Minecraft space and how Minecraft as a platform enables play for children who are otherwise disabled in a physical-world playground.
