“Built to host”? Built for whom? The LA2028 Olympics and urban exclusions

The Los Angeles Olympics Organizing Committee's website promises that “LA2028 is about what we have, not what we're going to build” (LA2028 n.d.). An early version of the LA bid book declares Los Angeles is “built to host” the Games (LA2024 2014:9). While hosting the Olympics is “an immense cost for most places,” LA mayor Eric Garcetti reflected in 2018, “we have a different model” (Armstrong 2018).
