ABSTRACT

Clinical documentation has traditionally been a significant part of a physician’s workload. The introduction of electronic medical records, with an emphasis on discrete data for meaningful use, has amplified this burden because typical input methods are cumbersome, time-consuming and often difficult to use. The new system is fully integrated into the clinic’s existing systems. Well-managed practices are complex operations with established processes and significant interdependencies. The front-end integration enables the smart system to automatically import patient demographics from the clinic’s practice management system, generating a worklist for each provider that shows a physician’s daily patient appointment schedule, along with jobs for any letters or other related tasks. Time saved in producing clinical documentation also improves the quality of patient care by speeding up physician communication, patient-care decisions and time to treatment.
