ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses impact on healthcare's various stakeholders, individually as well as collectively. The ease with which mobile devices and applications facilitate disease management is catching the attention of all stakeholders. mHealth is being embraced by clinicians and other healthcare providers who increasingly recognize the value of real-time communication with all healthcare stakeholders, most especially patients/consumers. In addition to patients, clinical and nonclinical personnel in healthcare organizations, there are numerous other stakeholders affected by and involved with mHealth. These include payers, pharma, vendors, developers, first responders, researches, educators and others. Wireless carriers and mobile device and app developers and vendors are also among mHealths stakeholders. As the adoption of mHealth technologies expands, wireless carriers are facing increasing demands to ensure coverage anywhere, anytime so that patient care will not be interrupted. E-mail, text messages and even tweets are being exchanged among stakeholders, creating demands to transmit, manage, respond to and store such messages.
