ABSTRACT

Rising out of the ground just to the southeast of Orlando International Airport is Lake Nona Medical City, North America's largest new health and life sciences cluster. A key component of this commitment is to study how to efficiently and thoughtfully distribute health and well care throughout an individual's day and life. The Lake Nona Institute is specifically focused on how mHealth can make a difference in the areas of wellness and prevention, chronic disease management and aging in place. Through a partnership with GE, a founding sponsor of the Lake Nona Institute, community metrics are in development to define and track results from health and wellness initiatives implemented at Lake Nona. Lake Nona and its partners are optimistic about the potential for mobile health, but believe that the next five years will be “the Wild West” of mHealth as vendors and consumers wrestle with defining use cases that create real value and then assessing the effectiveness of specific applications.
