ABSTRACT

The steps to begin may be a little different if people are an individual provider rather than if people run or manage a healthcare organization. Several providers and organizations people interviewed voiced disappointment at their patients’ adoption rate for these tools. People can help make adoption a reality by making sure everyone in the office talks about the capabilities, that people have staff available to help their patients get registered, and that peremind people patients at every turn that they have online ways to access their own information, as well as direct ways to contact people. Most patients do not interact with the healthcare system daily, the way they shop or bank. It may take some repetition for patients to think first of their online options when they need healthcare. Over time, however, people's patients will warm to the convenience and online interactions will become habitual for them.
