ABSTRACT
Dr. Ryan Neuhofel, or Dr. Neu as he likes to be called, is a family practice doctor in Lawrence, Kansas. He practices a new kind of medicine—Direct Primary Care. It is much like concierge medicine but at a fraction of the price. Dr. Neu’s patients pay him a small stipend monthly in exchange for services such as quick phone calls, lab and diagnostic tests, online personal health record, pharmacist counseling and group education classes. The prices for services are all posted up front. He practices high-touch medicine, offering house calls and finding patient discounts on related services, but he also practices high-tech medicine, using a free practice management system, offering his patients access to their information via a portal, and responding directly via emails and text. He has also built his own website and created a number of his own patient videos.
