ABSTRACT

This examination of the films Touch of Evil (1958) and Giant (1956) traces some of the ways that Latino/a/x and Chicano/a/x people are located in cinematic representations through horror. Our analysis begins with a brief comparison of two popular feature films from the 1950s for the purpose of establishing significant early connections between Latino/as and horror. Finally, we submit another comparison-contrast of two 1950s films that further locate some of the origins of Latino/a/xs within horror movies as well as, quite possibly, some of the origins of modern horror stylistics with Latino/a/x representations.
