ABSTRACT
The reason one encounters the library space, then, is not to find something that is physically there (a book on a shelf). Rather the book is a portal to something or somewhere else, the virtual space inherent in the heterotopia. In the shadow of the real library bookshelves are virtual bookshelves, booksteps, and storyladders of the virtual space within the real space.
