ABSTRACT
The chapter is dedicated to the French invasion of Egypt (1798–1801) and a three-year occupation of the country. It discusses the historiographic approaches to the topic, the key points of the French campaign in Egypt and Syria, the resistance of the local population, and the daily relations between the French and the inhabitants of the country. In the conclusion, the main results and consequence of the invasion, both for France and Egypt, are examined.
