ABSTRACT

In a sense, it seems mistaken to suggest that there is any problem with the process of scholarly communication. These days scholars are communicating at staggering rates. An article in the Journal of Social Behavior and Personality notes that professors in the sciences alone generate articles for 40,000 journals at the rate of two articles per minute each day — well over 1,000,000 articles per year. 1 Scholarly communication is not in jeopardy, but the organization, delivery, and control of that burgeoning literature may well be.
