ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book highlights the role American perceptions play in interpreting the challenge posed by Chinese technological progress in the quest for “AI supremacy”. It contains important insights into the relationship between humans and machines in international security. The book raises questions about the impact of a progressive tendency toward automating cyber-attacks and the implications this carries for cyber security. It sets out to answer pressing questions about the impact of emerging technologies on national and international security as well as on the security of societies and non-state actors. It analysis of the way democratic and authoritarian regimes shape the development and use of emerging technologies underlines the importance of perennial political interests in guiding the process, to very different ends.
