ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the efforts of grassroots movements in the Caribbean that started on social media, and are in conversation with the global #MeToo movement although they predated it. McFee explores engagements between activists, survivors, and state institutions as they seek to create a just future, and points towards the fact that the history of agitations towards justice often neglects the action of those most notably wronged by the prevailing racist, patriarchal, and misogynist system. This is reflected in American academia which has generally failed to incorporate Caribbean perspectives that hold explanatory power for a more comprehensive understanding of oppression around the world.
