ABSTRACT
Although the 2008 financial crisis certainly called the prevalence of neoliberalism into question, a new ideological paradigm has been slow to materialise during the last decade. Voices of resistance have been many and diverse, opposing the impossible situation of debt and precarious employment due to the rise of austerity politics in Western countries. Despite this resistance, it could be argued that neoliberalist capitalism interpellates its subjects as invulnerable and possessive individuals now more than ever. This chapter argues, however, that through #MeToo and other feminist revolutions, a new paradigm is emerging based on vulnerability and relationality, which has the potential to replace neoliberalism paradigms. The practices of coming together in female-only (virtual) spaces and sharing traumatic experiences allow women to be vulnerable without shame. The author identifies the revolutionary act as listening and believing in women when they share stories of abuse, thus reinforcing a constructive notion of vulnerability.
