ABSTRACT
This chapter contributes to the discussion on cultural mobility of performance studies from the perspective of the possibilities afforded by the Finnish language to expand the notion of authorship to include non-human co-performers, such as trees. The focus is on two notions and their use in Finnish, on one hand, the single term for author, maker, and factor, tekijä, and on the other hand, the two different terms used for performing, the transitive esittää and the intransitive esiintyä. These can help us expand our understanding of agency. Besides changing notions of authorship and ‘performerhood’ in a post-humanist context, strategies for shared authorship are also discussed.
