ABSTRACT

The digitalization of society and so-called technological convergence has had a major impact on journalism and on the relationship between citizens and information. Media companies have strengthened the symbiosis between technology and information and have embraced to greater or lesser degrees, data journalism, artificial intelligence and computational journalism. This chapter analyses how this change has affected journalistic practices and skills, and its impact on training challenges for companies and universities. For that purpose, the authors explore what are the professional needs in the field of journalism after the digitalization of society and convergence processes in the media landscape. Similarly, this text addresses the most salient challenges for the training of future communication professionals. All of that with the objective of drawing an overview of what could be the future of journalism professionals in the near future.
