ABSTRACT

After the creation of the Web, the evolution of the Internet left a favourable scenario for the migration of traditional media from paper to the online sphere and the beginning of a new era for journalism. The entrance into the 21st century represents the starting point for a whole process of metamorphosis in the media as several transformations have been taking place raised by digital development. Journalists promote a more visual, gamified and, to some extent, immersive storytelling in pursuit of a greater connection between users and the story. Journalism has been traditionally shaped by the evolution of technology, especially because technological advances have been greatly integrated in the routines of journalists. Technological advances have played a crucial role in the development of different ways of doing journalism. Despite the difficulties, the digital environment has also brought some opportunities for journalism and media outlets. The chapter also presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book.
