ABSTRACT

Journalism has deeply changed as technological developments are increasingly affecting the newsmaking processes. In this regard, the current scenario reveals renewed narratives, novel techniques for data processing and information visualization and, among others, an increasing relevance of data journalism. The future looks visual and more automated thanks to artificial intelligence. In this regard, the speed at which the context of search, production, dissemination and management of participation related to the information processes within the communication industry is mutating illustrates a scenario where mobile, multichannel, multimedia and transmedia are the everyday life of professionals, who should adapt their training to the new times. Moreover, it also has an impact in future journalists. Therefore, communication faculties must train students in the latest skills, such as programming, data mining, automated content management or information visualization platform management, as these lead to new, specific professional profiles. Curriculums should be adapted to respond to the demands of today’s journalism and to prepare the next generations of media professionals with abilities for the management of the required tools to act in this hypertechnological world.
