ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces this Handbook, beginning with an overview of the history of theories of comparative rhetoric. It then describes the origins of the collection. In the following two sections it addresses the term rhetoric and the term comparative in ways that apply to this book and to related fields of inquiry. Lastly, it describes the collection itself, its structure and contributors.
