Doing Rhetoric Elsewhere

In “Doing Rhetoric Elsewhere: Chicanx Indigeneities, Colonial Peripheries, and the Underside of Written Communication,” Damián Baca discusses how Eurocentric conceptions of rhetorical theory contribute to epistemic disauthorizations of “non-Western” subjects. As a corrective, Baca advocates for the re-inscribing of Indigenous, Chicanx knowledges into the framework of Rhetoric and Composition Studies, thereby analyzing across conventional rhetorical borders, between non-alphabetic and lettered graphic signs to better understand how graphic symbols are enacted within colonial structures of power.
