ABSTRACT

This chapter is written from the author’s own experience of over three decades in the field of deaf education in India. While the intention is not to provide historical milestones of deaf education or compare, and contrast with other countries around the world, this chapter provides the “what and the how” of deaf education, from then to now. The focus is on the perspectives and practices of schooling, curricular transactions, and mainstreaming practices that have evolved for deaf children in India.
