MR. WHITNEY has already touched upon many topics. Off-hand occur to me, “one-celled ancestors,” “getting life started,” hair, glands, “system of blood circulation,” “fossil reptile,” amphibians, fishes, nerves, sex, the vertebrate eye, the Calevaras skull, milk, whales, shrews, insect wings, squid, snail, oyster, along with Cambrian trilobites, fruit-flies, birds, lily, palm, pine, jelly-fish, butterfly, eagle, bear, rat—these will, I trust, do for a start.
