ABSTRACT

Change is the single dominant factor in the library profession today. It’s a struggle to manage change within our institutions. The most immediate change affecting librarians is the change in the level of funding allocated for library resources. Because of the diminished financial resources, library collections are migrating from a primarily print-based collection to accessing information on an as-needed basis. Online environments and computer technology have been instrumental in changing the library organizational structure. With the implementation of automated systems, changes occur in the number of staff needed; the job responsibilities; the work flow; and a closer cooperation has developed between departments as librarians assess and evaluate library collections to ensure the current and future needs of students and scholars are met.
