ABSTRACT

In this chapter, school administrators and leaders will overview a variety of skills that special educators inherently possess, making them ideal members of school leadership teams looking to promote inclusive practices. Integral leadership roles will be overviewed, and solutions for overcoming potential obstacles that may be responsible for the underrepresentation of special educators as teacher leaders will be addressed. Readers will reflect on their own needs as a school community before determining ways in which they can leverage their current special educators as leaders. Through this chapter, administrators will identify a plan for utilizing their special educators in specific leadership roles that will contribute to inclusive academic, behavioral, and collaborative practices aimed at supporting student achievement.
