ABSTRACT

In this chapter, school administrators and leaders will be provided with an in-depth introduction to the Data-Based Individualization (DBI) framework, which is a framework that has the potential for improving academic outcomes for students with the most severe and persistent learning and/or behavior needs. School leaders will learn the various components of the DBI framework and how schools could use data to intensify and individualize interventions for students who are not making progress. Examples of the DBI process will highlight the iterative nature of DBI. After completing this chapter, school leaders will be able to identify potential challenges that might arise when implementing DBI school-wide and plan to minimize these challenges. School leaders will also be able to use implementation tips provided in this chapter, including ways of leveraging special educators' key unique skills to effectively implement DBI at their schools.
