ABSTRACT

This chapter offers a general introduction and summary of the book Creative and Critical Projects in Classroom Music: Fifty years of Sound and Silence. It provides a rationale for the nature and structure of the book as both a celebration and response to the seminal publication by Paynter and Aston in 1970. In doing this the chapter outlines the central themes of the critical chapters, the ethos of the creative projects and the ways in which the book might contribute to ongoing debates on creative music making in the classroom.
