ABSTRACT

In Chapter 11, Chad Posick, Michael Roque, and Johannes Wheeldon consider the history of victimology in criminology. Building on previous work, the authors explore how to visualize victimization on the basis of existing research and how the intersection between personal characteristics and social environments can lead to negative social outcomes. The chapter details an integrated approach to victimization that incorporates individual differences into theoretical explanations of behavior, while also recognizing contextual factors that might influence and/or interact with personal characteristics. The chapter concludes with policy implications and recommendations.
