ABSTRACT

In Chapter 3, Brendan D. Dooley presents the Oral History Criminology Project. As a repository of recollections of the intellectual development of the fields of criminology and criminal justice, the project makes available content from 130 (and growing) video recordings. He argues that the oral histories themselves serve as data, offering criminologists insights into debates both past and present and the means to map the varying developments in the field through the years. He provides a number of visual depictions based on his reflections on the oral histories. Some draw upon the substantive comments that the oral histories offer, while others consider how knowledge is applied and spread.
