ABSTRACT

The psychological effects of pornography have been reviewed by Crown (1973), Yaffe and Tennent (1973), and Kenyon (1975). Stoller (1970) postulates psychodynamic theories, while legal aspects are discussed by Grant (1973) and Hudson (1973). Gummer (1971) traces the development of the Obscene Publications Act of 1959, and the sale of sex literature throughout Europe and the United States. North (1974) makes a detailed study of fetish literature, but there is no up-to-date analysis of the contents of current sex magazines. In a psychosexual clinic, patients are frequently encountered who have consulted sex magazines in an attempt to solve their problems. It is proposed to review 72 magazines currently on sale.
