Serials Control: Meeting the Challenge at the University of Oklahoma

In 1954 a separate serials department with limited duties was organized in the University of Oklahoma Libraries. Further organizational changes resulted in the establishment of an integrated serials department responsible for both technical and public service aspects of serials. All serial functions are performed by the department except for the selection of titles, marking of volumes and servicing of bound volumes housed in the stacks. Cataloging has been performed online since 1977, but most functions are still manual. Dramatic changes will occur with the implementation of the NOTIS serials control module in the near future. The flexible staff in this integrated department looks forward to the challenge.
