ABSTRACT

The OCLC Serials Control Subsystem, the least known of OCLC's subsystems, has been operational since 1975. Areas on which it impacts currently include the OCLC On-line Union Catalog, CONSER, the OCLC Cataloging Subsystem, and the world of serial publications. Soon-to-be-added capabilities include union listing, claiming, links to the Name-Address Directory, off-line products, and statistical reports. Binding control will complete the subsystem.

The future of the Serials Control Subsystem holds many possibilities including master serial records, links to all OCLC subsystems, public service displays, and on-line communication with vendors. OCLC, regional networks, and OCLC members are partners in refining the subsystem.
