ABSTRACT

At the Ohio State University Libraries prior to the establishment of the Central Serial Record (CSR), serial records were maintained in twelve separate files. Library faculty members serving on task forces and University Systems personnel planned for conversion of serial holdings to the Library Control System (LCS) and wrote supporting documents. Conversion procedures are described, including the use of optical scanning to input data to LCS.

After the conversion of serial holdings, it was possible to limit searches to serial only or non-serial only matches. Also, a detailed search of a serial can now be limited to a specific unique identification number, volume, year, location, copy number, holding type, or any combination of these.
