ABSTRACT

In this interview, Cindy Cruz recounts the impact of This Bridge Called My Back (1981) and other key texts and experiences on her pedagogical approach to teaching and learning with queer and trans youth of color. Drawing on theories and practices that maintain perpetual collision among queer, trans, and intersectional theories, Cruz discusses the spaces of streets, classrooms, clubs, and online worlds where youth resist through their exuberance and commitment to recognition and justice. Her work in classrooms and beyond underscores the dialogic pedagogies moving across texts, temporalities, and generations that expand where pedagogy thinks about learning and connection.
