ABSTRACT

In July 1966, Joan Baez gave her first concert in Paris at the Mutualité. It took place in a music hall in the heart of the Latin Quarter, as she had refused to sing at the prestigious Olympia. Giovanna Marini was one of the musicians of the 1960s who was most engaged in the folk revival movement inspired by left-wing politics. After a long and successful career, she has continued to combine professional activity with a sincere social commitment that has never become less intense. Like all the other folk singers, Rosa Balistreri, the third protagonist of this chapter, had a voice that was at one with the attitude of a body born and raised in the harshness of peasant life.
