ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the world of fintech, where finance and technology intersect. It explores how territory, finance, information, and technology have become seamlessly integrated. The author embeds this topic within wider understandings of neoliberalism and the financialization of the economy, including global debt, which gave rise to global financial flows that cross borders with ease. Along the way, fintech gave rise to spin-offs such as NASDAQ, offshore financial centers, big data analytics, and cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin. The chapter concludes with a warning that practices such as credit scoring are integral to the panopticonic operation of contemporary capitalism.
