ABSTRACT

The proliferating number of Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs) has led to the debate whether they help or hinder the broader process of multilateral trade liberalisation. Despite of arguments in favour or against RTAs, there has been a significant increase in the volume of world trade taking place within the framework of such agreements. However, these products have increased their prominence in India's imports from Thailand. The EHS products, which had a share of around 13 per cent of India's imports from Thailand in 2002-2003, have increased their share to 16 per cent in 2007-2008. During the period April-February 2008-2009, imports form Thailand accounted for a share of 15.2 per cent. The EHS products have witnessed a CAGR of 23 per cent for India's exports to Thailand, and 51 per cent for India's imports from Thailand. In terms of India's imports from Thailand, several product groups have witnessed a CAGR of over 100 per cent.
