ABSTRACT

Michel Foucault differentiated the neoliberalism of the Chicago School from the Freiburg Ordoliberals, relating a different trajectory unique to the United States context. Even as the global financial crisis of 2008 prompted many to prematurely proclaim neoliberalism’s demise, including then Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, time has shown that the pliable chameleon has only increased its penetration. In Australia in 2018, the Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science and Science Teaching were awarded at a gala dinner in Parliament House, Canberra. Consequent to promotion of a National Innovation and Science Agenda in 2015–16, an award for translating science into commercial outcomes, the Prime Minister’s Prize for Innovation, by the previous Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, was added. Filtered through the lens of science and science education, the big entanglements of human experience gain a unique and exceptional perspective unavailable otherwise.
