ABSTRACT

Alongside the growing complexity of cyberspace, there is a widening skills gap worldwide. This recognition has led governments to develop new strategies that will help develop a workforce ready to safeguard digital infrastructures and cyber-physical systems. This chapter surveys such initiatives taken in the UK, focusing particularly on university programmes, government strategies and national and regional competitions. The chapter concludes that while the UK has significantly expanded its repertoire of cyber training initiatives in the last six years, there is still a significant skills gap in the public sector. New initiatives should pay particular attention to skills provision for national-level cyber emergencies.
