ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we discuss workforce development as an essential pathway to achieving administration quality when early childhood innovations are expanded to reach broad populations. We (a) highlight workforce realities of the early childhood intervention and care and education fields that pose situational threats to achieving administrative quality at scale; (b) discuss professional development research and outline the specifics of an ideal program to grow practitioner competency in the context of early childhood intervention and care and education programs; and (c) illustrate how to embed workforce development infrastructure into innovations as a critical core component to prevent declines in administrative quality when expanded to broad settings.
