ABSTRACT

Data sources in qualitative research include a wide range of data that have been recorded as text in various formats, such as books, newspapers, public records, audio, and video. Content analysis is a research method that involves the interpretation, coding, and analysis of secondary data for the purpose of assigning meaning and drawing inferences. This research method has been widely employed throughout the social sciences and may be effectively utilized in the emerging field of emergency management. This chapter includes an overview of secondary data sources and content analysis within the context of qualitative research and will explore the utility of content analysis in emergency management research.
