ABSTRACT

This chapter will explore how the advances of neuroscience and brain imaging have led to the field of neurocounseling. These advances have added value and granular dimensions in the counseling field by refocusing our efforts on brain health and brain illness, from mental health and mental illness. The chapter identifies how a graduate studies course at Bradley University and its projects led to the creation of this book as a means to help counselors and other clinical professionals identify how to help clients regulate their brain with applied techniques for specific areas of the brain. The goal is to be more efficient and effective in helping our clients reach optimal brain regulation through connecting what they are telling us to what we know about brain functioning.
