ABSTRACT
The emergence of paraprofessionals as a distinct class of employee within librarianship is a phenomenon whose impact upon the profession may yet equal that of automation. As a topic in the literature, the deployment and utilization of paraprofessionals remains to be fully analyzed, yet another casualty to our unerring ability to avoid or deny many of the most pressing problems.
