ABSTRACT

Intelligence is the end result of the collection and subsequent analysis of information assembled from myriad sources. The purpose of gathering intelligence directly relates to the directive or mandate of the organization collecting the information. Worldwide, intelligence-gathering agencies draw upon the gamut of their resources in order to render a more complete model during investigations. Forensic intelligence may identify investigative or information gaps. It may provide profiles of suspects or criminal activity. In support of strategic analysis, it may be used to define modus operandi and other trends and patterns. Forensics, as an independent lens, offers another layer of intelligence and can link across great spans of time and distance what would not otherwise be linked. Forensic document examination is a multifaceted discipline that can be of significant aid to the investigation as well as to the courts and trier-of-fact.
