ABSTRACT
Summary. Does technology drive change or do human values shape technology? The author discusses this question within the context of the California State University System. The advantages and difficulties of conducting work in remote locations via telecommuting are discussed, with special reference to libraries. The virtual library will promote greater use of information by remote users, but telecommuting is not a substitute for face-to-face interaction.
