ABSTRACT

This brief chapter will provide a chronical illustration of how the English Institute of Sport’s Mental Health Team and Mental Health Expert Panel collectively and collaboratively support athletes in the United Kingdom. The chapter will aim to highlight how athletes can be supported both within their sport and externally. In addition, it will provide insight into how coaches and support staff are supported and educated in order to provide the best support to athletes. It is hoped that this insight and illustration will provide guidance to systems, practitioners, coaches, and administrators in terms of how they may promote positive mental health and provide appropriate support for those experiencing mental health problems. The use of illustrative case studies, such as this one, is utilised within the UK to promote and educate staff and athletes on the subject of mental health.
