ABSTRACT

More can be done in schools to make education purposeful and personally meaningful for students. Purpose-driven schooling is envisioned as: (a) inspiring all children towards larger and more positive purposes, (b) teaching with and for purpose to make educationally wise decisions in the formation of persons, and (c) a value-creating culture of wholeness, connectedness, caring, moral commitment and ethical action. Three principles of Truth, Aspiration and Goodness are proposed as purpose touchstones for students, teachers and school leaders: Being true to oneself, reaching towards aspirational goals, and inspiring pathways to a greater good.
